I tell ya what, the ADAM makes a great tinker toy. ;)

Ever since I have upgraded the ADAM with the expansion cards and
hard drive, I have had a problem (most notable in TDOS) with a
scrambled display when I first get started. Generally this goes
away after it "warms up" for about 5 mins or so. Basically, the
screen will look as normal in TDOS, but everywhere there was
blank space, there was an apostrophe (or similar) character
instead. Sometimes the colors weren't right (which I thought
was rather interesting), you'd end up with pastel colors some-
times, and sometimes not. Borders didn't look right. I should
also note that I have replaced the SmartWriter power supply with
a standard PC style supply instead (with all the extra RAM and
hard drive, etc, it only seemed sensible to use a better supply).

Well, I had long suspected the power connector from the power
supply cable. It never seemed to make a very good connection, and
I presume that the problem was caused by an improper ground
connection. Well, I replaced the connector on the cable and
everything is working GREAT! Much better, my display is clear
again. ;)

Just thought I'd share with the group in case someone else was
experiencing similar problems.

Oh yeah, I mentioned my rather atypical ADAM case to the group
prior to ADAMCON 10. As you may recall my ADAM has a bit of a
different color case. On every ADAM I've seen prior to this one,
the top and bottom clamshell parts of the case are an off-white,
with a beige face. But, on my ADAM, the bottom clamshell is
beige, matching the front and expansion module door instead of
the top. I thought to myself well, maybe this was a very early
model ADAM, but it turns out that the revision motherboard in it
was actually newer than my other ADAM with the more typical style
case. The serial number from the bottom for the purposes of
comparison is Serial # A8157114 Model #2410 CPU.

It is definitely a north american model, as it is an NTSC machine.
The keyboard from this machine is NA as well.

So, does anyone know what gives here?

Later!

*Geoff!*

Editor note.......I have the same thing as Geoff; as I look around
here, I see two ADAM's with ivory bottoms and one with the beige
bottom. Anybody got the technical answer here???????
